Privacy Policy

1) Scope

This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information about people in Canada who subscribe to or interact with our Newsletter and related pages/forms hosted on SwissChris.ca (or our email platform).

2) What we collect

Contact details: email address (required), first/last name (optional).

Preferences & interactions: topics you choose, whether you open an email or click a link, time and date of engagement.

Technical info: IP address, device/browser type, and cookies set by us or our service providers (see “Cookies & tracking”).

Messages: replies you send to our newsletter address and survey responses.

We do not sell personal information.

3) Why we collect it (our purposes)

To send you the Newsletter and manage your subscription.

To personalize content and measure what readers find most useful.

To maintain the security and reliability of our systems and to prevent abuse.

To meet legal and regulatory requirements (e.g., record-keeping for consent/unsubscribe).

With your consent, to share occasional promotions or event invitations related to SwissChris.ca.

4) Consent & how to withdraw it (CASL + PIPEDA)

We rely on your consent to collect and use your information. You give consent when you sign up (and, where enabled, confirm via double opt-in).

You can unsubscribe anytime using the link in every email or by emailing [unsubscribe@swisschris.ca
]. We process unsubscribes immediately (and in any case within 10 business days).

If you unsubscribe, we’ll stop sending you commercial emails. We may keep minimal records (e.g., your email and the fact you unsubscribed) as legally required.

5) If you are in Québec (Law 25)

For subscribers in Québec, we:

Name a person in charge of personal information (see above).

Publish this policy in clear terms and keep it up to date.

Notify the CAI (and affected individuals) of any confidentiality incident that creates a risk of serious injury, as required.

Offer transparency about any automated decision-making that materially affects you (we do not currently make such decisions about subscribers).

Respect the right of access and correction and, when regulations require it, data portability.

6) Your choices & rights (Canada-wide)

You may:

Access your personal information we hold and ask for a copy.

Correct inaccurate information.

Withdraw consent (unsubscribe).

Ask questions or complain to us or to your provincial/federal privacy regulator.

Minors: Our Newsletter is aimed at a general audience. If you are under 13, a parent/guardian should subscribe on your behalf. If we learn we collected a child’s information without appropriate consent, we’ll delete it.

7) Cookies & tracking

Our emails may include open-tracking pixels (to know an email was opened) and link tracking (to see which links are clicked), so we can improve content.

Our Site may use first-party cookies and limited third-party cookies/SDKs for analytics (e.g., page views, referrers).

You can manage cookies in your browser settings and disable images in your email client to reduce tracking. Some features may not work without cookies/images.

8) Service providers & cross-border transfers

We use trusted vendors to deliver the Newsletter, host our Site, and analyze performance. Examples include:

These providers may process data on servers in Canada, the United States, or other countries. When we transfer data to service providers, we require appropriate safeguards and we remain responsible for their handling of personal information on our behalf.

9) Retention

Subscriber data: kept while you remain subscribed.

Consent/unsubscribe records: kept for up to [24 months] after your last commercial message (or longer if legally required).

We delete or de-identify personal information when it’s no longer needed for the purposes above.

10) Security

We use reasonable physical, organizational, and technical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information (e.g., access controls, TLS encryption in transit, strong account security for admin access). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we strive to protect your data.

11) Sharing & disclosures

We do not sell your data. We may share personal information with:

  • Service providers acting on our instructions (see section 8).
  • Authorities where required or permitted by law (e.g., to comply with valid legal process or protect our rights or the safety of others).
  • Business changes: If we reorganize, merge, or transfer operations related to the Newsletter, your information may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

12) Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If changes are material, we’ll note that in the Newsletter or on the Site and indicate the new effective date. Continued subscription after the effective date means you accept the revised policy.

PIPEDA applies to private-sector organizations and is built on the “fair information principles,” including consent, purpose identification, safeguards, access, and accountability.
